How to speed up your PC - Boltspur Special ;)

NOTE: ALL THE METHODS ARE MY PERSONAL AND IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER BETTER METHODS, THEY ARE WELCOMED. YOU CAN LEAVE THEM IN THE COMMENTS SECTION!
Well guys, today I am gonna tell you about the most commonly faced problem, 'Slowing down of the system' after a few months from the new install. Just imagine, you have gotta go to your girl friend's house for studying [;)] and she has also asked you to bring the latest movies that you have downloaded. You are already late and the stupid system.. arrrggghhh!

Well, you can't do nothing at that moment but just regret for not having checked the slow speed.
Today I will be telling you some tips to keep your system fast.

1. Remove spyware, and help protect your computer from viruses

Spyware collects personal information without letting you know and without asking for permission. From the websites you visit to user names and passwords, spyware can put you and your confidential information at risk. In addition to privacy concerns, spyware can hamper your computer's performance. To combat spyware, you might want to consider using the PC safety scan from Windows Live OneCare. This scan is a free service that helps check for and remove viruses.
Download Microsoft Security Essentials for free to help guard your system in the future from viruses, spyware, adware, and other malicious software (also known as malware). Microsoft Security Essentials acts as a spyware removal tool and includes automatic updates to help keep your system protected from emerging threats.
The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool is another utility that checks computers running Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003 for infections by specific, prevalent malicious software, including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom, and helps remove any infection found.

2. Free up disk space

The Disk Cleanup tool helps you to free up space on your hard disk to improve the performance of your computer. The tool identifies files that you can safely delete and then enables you to choose whether you want to delete some or all of the identified files.
Use Disk Cleanup to:
  • Remove temporary Internet files.
  • Delete downloaded program files, such as Microsoft ActiveX controls and Java applets.
  • Empty the Recycle Bin.
  • Remove Windows temporary files, such as error reports.
  • Delete optional Windows components that you don't use.
  • Delete installed programs that you no longer use.
  • Remove unused restore points and shadow copies from System Restore.
Tip: Typically, temporary Internet files take the most amount of space because the browser caches each page you visit for faster access later.
To use Disk Cleanup:

Windows 7 users

Windows Vista users

Windows XP users

3. Speed up access to data

Disk fragmentation slows the overall performance of your system. When files are fragmented, the computer must search the hard disk as a file is opened (to piece it back together). The response time can be significantly longer.
Disk Defragmenter (sometimes shortened to Defrag by users) is a Windows utility that consolidates fragmented files and folders on your computer's hard disk so that each occupies a single space on the disk. With your files stored neatly end to end, without fragmentation, reading and writing to the disk speeds up.
When to run Disk Defragmenter
In addition to running Disk Defragmenter at regular intervals (weekly is optimal), there are other times you should run it, too, such as when:
  • You add a large number of files.
  • Your free disk space totals 15 percent or less.
  • You install new programs or a new version of the Windows operating system.
To use Disk Defragmenter:

Windows 7 users

Windows Vista users

Windows XP users

Running Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter on a regular basis is a proven way to help keep your computer running quickly and efficiently. If you'd like to learn how to schedule these tools and others to run automatically, please read Speed up your PC: Automate your computer maintenance schedule.

4. Detect and repair disk errors

In addition to running Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter to optimize the performance of your computer, you can check the integrity of the files stored on your hard disk by running the Error Checking utility.
As you use your hard drive, it can develop bad sectors. Bad sectors slow down hard disk performance and sometimes make data writing (such as file saving) difficult or even impossible. The Error Checking utility scans the hard drive for bad sectors and scans for file system errors to see whether certain files or folders are misplaced.
If you use your computer daily, you should run this utility once a week to help prevent data loss.

Run the Error Checking utility:

5. Learn about ReadyBoost

If you're using Windows 7 or Windows Vista, you can use ReadyBoost to speed up your system. A new concept in adding memory to a system, it allows you to use non-volatile flash memory—like a USB flash drive or a memory card—to improve performance without having to add additional memory.

6.  Upgrade  to  Windows 7

If you try all the previous remedies and your computer still isn't as fast as you would like it to be, you may want to consider updating to Windows 7.

Intel announces successor to Thunderbolt

The latest interface, Thunderbolt, has barely set a mark in the market and Intel is already making plans to replace it. Likes of Intel have to think ahead and they have once again exhibited this trait by working for a technology which is planned to be launched around four years down the line. Intel doesn’t have a codename for it but they have prototypes and have set a foot on the metal to take it up.
The new technology makes use of Silicon Photonics (Not Quantum Photonics) and will take the data transfer to a new milestone of 50Gbps surpassing Thunderbolt’s already awesome 10Gbps. Though Intel had developed a prototype last year, they are just flaunting it off more than they used to. And now with a 2015 release, the future seems to be much clearer than no date at all. Intel’s Jeff Domain also suggested that the new interface might even be compatible to Thunderbolt in some cases which is definitely a great news for Thunderbolt fans. Hoping to hear from Intel in another 6-7 months. Till then, just sitting tight looking forward to thunderbolt ports in every portable device and maybe even optical cables.

Good news for RIA developers Adobe CS5.5 is around the corner

Adobe has announced an upcoming version of their Creative Suite, CS 5.5 and it bring number great features for RIA developers. One of the central themes of this release its to enable creation of content for multiple screens, features for which have been added to Dreamweaver, Flash Professional, Flash Catalyst, and Flash Builder among other applications.
CS5.5 includes updated versions of Dreamweaver and Flash Professions, and includes Flash Builder 4.5 and Catalyst CS 5.5. It also brings in the new Adobe Acrobat X into the CS.
Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5 brings support for emerging web standards with HTML5 and CSS3 support. A new multi-screen preview panel lets web developers design for smartphones, tablets and desktops with greater ease by taking advantages of new standards.
Dreamweaver CS5.5 also allows developers to create content for mobiles with greater ease by adding support for the jQuery Mobile framework. Developers can also directly create applications for mobiles using HTML, CSS and JavaScript using the PhoneGap framework; these applications will run natively on each platform, offering integration with platform-specific features. CS5.5 also adds the ability to test such applications on an emulator.
Flash Professional CS5.5 too brings numerous improvements for multi-screen development. The latest Flash Player 10.2 is supported, and Flash Pro can now debug application on your device itself.
Flash Catalyst CS5.5 significantly improved the developer-designer workflow by allowing round-tripping between Flash Builder 4.5 and Flash Catalyst CS5.5. Catalyst now also allows creating resizable components that can work across multiple screen resolutions. Additionally, support for skinning custom-components and wireframing support has been added.
Flash Builder 4.5 brings the new Mobile-optimized Flex 4.5 SDK that supports building applications for Android, iOS and soon the Blackberry PlayBook as well. Flash Buildear too has a new emulator for testing applications. Numerous improvements to coding workflow have also been made. Flash Builder now also comes in a new PHP-enhanced version in collaboration with Zend. This includes a copy of Zend Studio allowing for development of server side of your application in tandem with the client application.
Adobe CS 5.5. brings more that just features though, Adobe CS5.5 is part of a new strategy for releasing CS versions. Adobe now intends to release new "milestone" releases such as CS3, CS4, CS5 every two years, while having mid-cycle releases in between to bring newer featues faster without a major release. This means that CS5.5 is not a free update to CS5, but is cheaper than a full--fledged CS5 to CS 6 would have been.
In addition to a new release cycle Adobe is also introducing a new model for using CS applications. A new subscription model allows one pay for using Adobe products on a monthly basis instead of an outright purchase. So freelancers or other who cannot afford Adobe products at their retail prices, or those who only need to use the products for short periods of time can pay a subscription price rather than a the full price of the products. While the cost of subscription on the long term will undoubtedly end up being more than the purchase price, subscription bring another advantage that offsets this. An Adobe product subscription includes any upgrades to the product released in the duration. So if Adobe CS6 comes out in the middle of your one-year CS5.5 subscription, it will be a free upgrade.

More Windows 8 screenshots revealed, showing Immersive browser and Modern Reader

The authors behind Windows 8 Secrets have revealed new screenshots of the new operating system, once again using pre-beta builds. Some of the screenshots reveal a user interface meant for small touch-based devices like tablets and phones, called Immersive UI, which is basically a Metro UI driven tile-based approach. Check it out below:

As seen above, Rivera has found what he called the Immersive version of Internet Explorer, which according to him “looks and works much like Windows Phone’s IE Mobile, but uses the desktop IE 9 renderer.” For now, we can assume that the browser will look like above only on tablets and other small form factor devices, because of the resizing limitations faced by the duo.
The screenshots revealed by Rivera and Thurrott also show off an application called Modern Reader. As described by Rivera, the “application itself s simple enough. It displays PDFs in full fidelity, as you’d expect. You can zoom in and out, and there’s a page scrubber on the side of the application window for document navigation.” It is also meant for small touch-based devices, and is installed with the Windows Phone style AppX. Check it out below:

There is a distinct purpose served by the Google Nexus phones, they are the lead devices for their platforms at release, showcasing just what the new versions can do – its features, its capabilities – in a completely vanilla form. To that end, it is not very surprising that a Google Nexus tablet is rumoured to be in the pipeline. The rumours are quite fair – after HTC and Samsung, Google has given LG the chance to make the Google Nexus tablet. LG has shown it can handle the hardware with the LG Optimus Pad – being the first to squeeze in a 3D camera, a hi-res 1280x768 resolution 3D-capable display, 4G connectivity, and a dual-core processor in a Honeycomb tablet. That leaves all the fine-tuning of an all-vanilla Nexus tablet up to the geeks at Google. Related Stories Our top picks of MWC 2011 LG unveils Optimus Pad tablet, 3D mobile smartphone Google to hold back 'Honeycomb' from phones LG Optimus One due for Android 2.3 Gingerbread update in May Since Honeycomb is already out, it stands to reason the LG Google Nexus tablet will run the rumoured phone-tablet OS – Ice Cream Sandwich or, version 2.4. This is the OS that Google seems to be prepping the Nexus One and S for, with the Android 2.3.3 update.

Tantalizing bits of Windows 8 have been revealed since June last year, and at CES 2011, Microsoft officially revealed the hardware agnostic nature of the upcoming platform, touting support for both ARM and x86 designs. Now, accompanying the latest leak of a Windows 8 System Reset feature, come reports that Microsoft has already begun shipping early builds of Windows 8 to key OEMs, such as HP.
Microsoft is supposedly distributing build 7971.0.110324-1900 (Windows 8 Milestone 3) through its Connect external testing system. The OEMs who have received this build are part of what is known as the Windows 8 and Server vNext Pre-Release program – companies that will help Microsoft test builds and offer feedback. Microsoft is expected to release a full-fledged beta of Windows 8 by September 2011, ahead of its release candidate and launch sometime in 2012. As for the System Reset feature, it looks to be a quick way for users to restore their device back to the original OEM settings, without re-installing the OS or re-formatting the HDD.

Microsoft launches free Windows Thin PC, helps repurpose old systems as thin clients

Microsoft has made freely available a pre-release beta of Windows Thin PC, a limited version of Windows that is meant to provide basic modern operating system features for older systems, and repurpose them as thin-clients.
Called WinTPC for short, the version available for free is the Windows Thin PC Community Technology Preview test build – the final product however, will be meant only for Software Assurance volume licensees.

According to Microsoft, WinTPC is a “a version of Windows 7 that allows customers to repurpose existing PCs as thin clients without requiring the VDA license to access VDI desktops.” In that sense, the Win TPC OS can be considered the latest form of Microsoft’s earlier remote/thin computing offerings, such as Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs.
While the biggest benefit of WinTPC is that it allows for older, non-supported hardware to run a version of the latest Windows 7 OS, it also provides RemoteFX and enterprise management support. Security advantages such as no-write to hard disk are also featured. Click here to download the Windows Thin PC build, and here for more information.
