Most smartphones these days come with Li-on (lithium-ion) batteries. In the cell, Lithium ions move from negetive electrode to the positive electrode producing the current. These are rechargeable but have a fixed number of life cycles. The capacity is measured in milliampere-hours (mAh). Phones with 1500 mAh battery rating usually last long enough.
